Course description:
Chinese Language I is a beginning Chinese class. Students will use the Chinese pinyin system to learn how to combine the finals, initials, and tone marks to make proper Chinese spellings and sounds. Students will also learn Chinese character components, and grammatical structures. The focus of the Chinese Language I class is to guide students in developing their communicative competence in the four basic skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing the Chinese language, as well as gaining an understanding of Chinese culture.

Chinese Culture
Chinese I students will learn Chinese Yo-Yo. They will perform the Chinese Yo-Yo during the Chinese Culture Night in April. Besides learning Chinese Yo-Yo, they will watch a movie called “I not stupid 2” to understand the Chinese parents' expectation and school life experience. Student will learn the Chinese calligraphy in spring semester; we will also celebrate Chinese New Year and Chinese Lantern Festive during the class next semester.
